Ms. Engles’ advanced art and digital photography students are winning serious awards! Congratulations to Lauren Reaves, Curtis Milligan, and Harrison Copeland.

Lauren earned 1st place 11th grade, graphite portrait, for her work titled “Jade Pearl.”

Curtis Milligan earned 2nd place 12th grade, graphite drawing, for his still life setup from his desk, titled “A Busy Day.”

Harrison Copeland juried into the show with his photo of a WWII plane. Harrison took the photo on the ground but makes viewers feel like they are up in the sky with the pilot.

Over 100 of the region’s top works of art from middle and high school students are on display until February 22nd. This annual competition is hosted by the West Tennessee Regional Art Center in Humboldt. Congratulations to the Adamsville High School students who were juried into this impressive show and were awarded with top prizes.

Ms. Erin Root's Foundations of Interior Design class has been studying Traditional Folk Housing. Students learned about various factors that impacted construction and design among dwellings of Native Americans and the early settlers. Each group was given the task to build a model home that reflected information learned in class.

Mr. Lipford's students have been getting hands-on experience with land surveying equipment. Students can use skills and equipment like this to do anything from major construction projects to installing an awesome swimming pool in the backyard. Oh, and Just in case you were wondering, our front yard is .46 acres in size, and changes 4.49 feet in elevation.

Want to support our FFA students? They're hosting a breakfast and silent auction fundraiser on December, 1st. This event will be held in the cafeteria.

English students are getting crafty...

High school English students have been creating "real world" examples of literature. Ms. Wilder's seniors created shields that represent themselves and their families. This assignment is based upon the famous Knights of the Round Table found in E.H. White's classic The Once and Future King. Mr. Walz's sophomores read one of Edgar Allen Poe's creepiest stories, "The Masque of the Red Death." Then they created artifacts that represent important symbols from the story. Ms. Reid's Creative Writing and Communication class created "ransom poetry."

The old becomes new...

Art historians (and historians in general) believe that where we've been is just as important as where we're going. In Ms. Engle's art classes, her advanced students are utilizing modern painting techniques like pouring and dripping to recreate classic works of art. We believe the students' works are impressive on their own, but get this: they weren't allowed to use a brush! The artists could only use gravity and a toothpick to create these paintings. Here's to reinventing the classics!
